Programme 01

Single-Session Household Heritage Catalogue

A three-hour in-home session in which a household catalogues the objects, photographs, and documents that have moved between generations — naming, dating where possible, and recording their place in the household. The session produces a printed catalogue. It is organisational and curatorial; it does not interpret any document and does not provide professional counsel.

Programme 02

Four-Session Records Curation Programme

A four-session programme over two months in which a household sets up a shared, structured records folder — identification, household papers, family contact list, and a printed family timeline. Sessions are organisational. The programme does not interpret documents and does not draft, prepare, or process legal papers. Households leave with a labelled folder and a printed family timeline.

Programme 03

Annual Family Records and Heritage Programme

A year-long programme designed to keep a household's records folder and heritage catalogue up to date through quarterly facilitated sessions. Includes an initial setup, three quarterly check-ins, and a closing annual review. The programme is organisational and curatorial throughout. Households receive a structured records folder and an updated heritage catalogue at the end of the year.

In-home, at the household's pace

Sessions take place where the objects actually live. There is no need to transport fragile items; the facilitator comes to you and works alongside family members at a pace suited to the household.

Every session ends with a printed record

A tangible, printed catalogue or labelled folder is part of every programme. These are objects the household keeps, not digital files that may become inaccessible after a generation.

Multi-generational participation welcomed

Grandparents, parents, and adult children are all invited to contribute during sessions. Shared memory makes catalogue entries richer and more accurate — and the process itself becomes a household activity.

Organisational, not advisory

Legacara catalogues, labels, and organises. We do not interpret documents, offer opinions on their contents, or provide counsel. Households retain full ownership of every decision about their records.

Unhurried, generous-paced sessions

Heritage work cannot be rushed. Sessions are scheduled with time for conversation, for pausing over a photograph, and for the kind of recollection that only emerges slowly. There is no productivity pressure.

Our facilitators are familiar with the naming conventions, written languages, and document formats common to Johor Bahru households — Jawi, Mandarin, and Romanised Malay records all comfortably accommodated.

What does Legacara actually do during a session?
A Legacara facilitator visits your household and works alongside family members to organise, name, date, and record the objects, photographs, and documents present. We produce a printed catalogue or labelled folder. We do not read or interpret the contents of personal documents, and we do not offer any form of professional counsel — legal, financial, or medical.
Does Legacara handle or advise on legal documents?
No. Legacara does not draft, process, interpret, or provide any opinion on legal documents. If a household presents documents for cataloguing, we record their existence, assign a label, and note their approximate date and subject — nothing more. For legal matters, households should engage a qualified practitioner.
How many people from the household should be present?
Participation is entirely at the household's discretion. Many families find that having an elder present — a grandparent or a parent who has held these objects for decades — adds considerable depth to the catalogue entries. Children who are old enough to contribute memories are also welcome. We adapt the pace to whoever is in the room.
What is included in the printed catalogue?
The printed catalogue is a ruled document listing each object, photograph, or document that the household chooses to record. Each entry carries a name, an approximate date where the household can supply one, a brief description, and the object's location or current custodian within the family. The layout draws from the conventions of small archival museums.
How long does the Annual Programme last, and when do sessions occur?
The Annual Family Records and Heritage Programme runs for twelve months. It begins with an initial setup session, followed by three quarterly check-ins spaced approximately three months apart, and concludes with a closing annual review. Dates are arranged with the household at each stage.
Are sessions conducted in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, or English?
Sessions are conducted in whichever language the household is most comfortable with. Our facilitators work comfortably in English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Mandarin, and can accommodate catalogue entries written in Jawi, traditional Chinese characters, or Romanised script. Please let us know your preference when you make an enquiry.
