We had boxes of photographs from my parents' time in Kota Tinggi — nobody was quite sure who was in each picture or when they were taken. The session gave us a way to lay everything out and decide together. The printed catalogue is something my children will be able to use without needing anyone to explain it to them.

My mother had kept letters in Mandarin dating back to the 1950s and we did not know how to incorporate them into the family records. The facilitator handled both the Chinese-character entries and the Romanised entries without any difficulty. The folder we received is well organised — though I would have liked a second session to go through the photographs in more detail.

Having quarterly check-ins means we recorded my father's passing in January and added the documents from settling his affairs while the information was still fresh. The four sessions stretched over about nine weeks for us because of a family trip in the middle. The facilitator was accommodating about the schedule. Three household engagements in detail.
Challenge
Three siblings had inherited objects and documents from their parents' home after it was sold. Items were split across two households. Neither sibling had a record of what existed or who held what.
Approach
A Four-Session Records Curation Programme was used, with sessions split between the two households. All three siblings were present for the final session, which produced a shared printed family timeline and an agreed catalogue of held objects.
Outcome
A complete records folder, a printed family timeline covering four decades, and a catalogue of 43 objects with location notes. Duration: eight weeks across four sessions.

Challenge
A family with a significant collection of photographs from their rubber estate in the 1960s and 70s. No photographs were dated or labelled, and the eldest family member who could identify people was in her late eighties.
Approach
A Single-Session Heritage Catalogue focused entirely on photographs. The facilitator worked alongside the family elder to record names and dates. Entries were made in English and Mandarin as she described each image.
Outcome
A printed catalogue of 61 photographs, each with a name entry, approximate date, and a brief note. The session was completed in three hours. The family subsequently enrolled in the annual programme to continue the work.

Challenge
A household returning from seven years abroad, where documents and household records had accumulated in a mix of formats — some physical, most digital printouts — with no consistent system for locating important papers quickly.
Approach
An Annual Family Records and Heritage Programme was selected. The initial setup session established the folder structure and prioritised the categories most relevant to the household. Quarterly check-ins tracked new documents as they arrived.
Outcome
At year's end: a complete labelled records folder, a printed family timeline, and an updated heritage catalogue. The household renewed the programme for a second year. Duration: 12 months, five sessions.
